batik masks

Batik is an art made by master batik. It is an art of patience and meticulousness.

The first step is to choose the fabric, preferably white, adequate. For our products, the fabric used is 100% cotton. The artist will first draw the pattern on the fabric chosen and the contours of the design work in "small brush" and warm wax. With wax recycled from an old canvas, we double the edges the design in wax and some areas of the web to provide surface effects. This allows for after dyeing and washing, the kinds of cracks in areas worked well. The parts that you want to keep blank are then covered with two layers of wax on both sides to be treated didn't the dyebath. Batik technique requires not to use too many colors radically different. It plays rather on differences in intensity. After many dye baths, hot water, drawing with a brush for small drying grounds and we get great works.

These lines are often moments of everyday life but also animals, stylized designs ... to suit the desire of the artist.

They can be machine washed up to 60 degrees without problems. Their colors are very resistant to washing. Their originality and exoticism amaze your guests during your meal.

FANG

As for masks PUNU, here's a little history on FANG.

The Fangs are an African ethnic group present in Central Africa such as Gabon (about 30% of the population) and Cameroon (minority).

This type of mask was used by the secret society male Ngil, now defunct, and had a judicial character. Its purpose was to research and put out of harm's Stone beyem responsible for an evil spirit. The introduction to "Ngil 'included:
- purification prior physical and moral
- a flogging;
- a confession of crimes and / or fracture of prohibitions;
- an ordeal ordeal;
- a presentation of relics ancestor (Byers);
- sacrifices and torture.

was a symbolic passing of the androgynous state to state adult, sexually defined.
The sacred place of "Ngil" was a clearing in the bush, rectangular, named Esam, with large effigies of wet earth vaguely human shape representing "Ngil" and his wife.
The neophytes had to crawl before these effigies in passing over a pit in which were hidden the warriors seeking to injure their arms. They were also subjected to the ants.
Only men could be introduced to "Ngil. The "Ngil" was in fact used as protecting the individual against witchcraft and poisoning. It was part of the rituals of regulation Gabonese traditional village life.
The ritual continues in the courtyard of the village at dawn or dusk. Armed with a sword ritual or a simple club, the "Ngil" was supposed to destroy the huts of the villagers in conflict with the other members of society. Such talk focused on adultery, theft or debts.
The wearer of the mask had a deep voice and distorted in order not to recognize that frightened women and children.
The French colonial authorities forbade this type of mask 1910.

The Mask of Gabon Punu

On our shop you can find some masks PUNU. I think it is useful to explain a little where they originate.

The Punu (also called Bapunu, Mupunu plural) are an ethnic group mainly distributed in southern Gabon.

The masks are used to accompany funeral or withdrawals of mourning. These are masks of ancestors.
They express the serenity of their elders who protect and advise them from the kingdom of the dead.
The wearer of the mask is covered with a raffia costume. During the ceremonies, he cries out to frighten wild spectators. Mask anthropomorphic white (most common), his face is painted with kaolin. The white kaolin is associated with death. The black masks are in turn probably have a judicial function.
The enigmatic face of the mask is slightly triangular. Under the eyes closed, almond-stretched and inflated by as sleep, rounder cheekbones high places. The number and arrangement of scars vary from one style or one ethnic group to another. The most common reason, in the form of scales, has nine diamonds, sometimes two, depending on the group. Scarification frontal or temporal diamond nine points represent their cosmogony and evoke the notion of perfection and wisdom. The central point is the principle designer (God) who gave birth to the four cardinal points (the world) and the two primary couples (humans). This distinctive, named mabinda, was engraved in the flesh of children around the age of ten to fourteen. The high side plaits hairstyle confirms the sex of the ancestor.

Here is some history for the curious.

Henry Bendel Eucalyptus Candle

And if talking about food ...

As I said earlier, I lived a long time in Cameroon and therefore I could enjoy many local dishes. I have also discover that Bruno was not starting very early and in the end was more than appealing. Indeed, this country, like any other for that matter, has delicious specialties. Admittedly, at first glance it is not always very appetizing, as ndolé that looks for "already eaten" as one might say. And yet ... it's so good.

For the curious, the foodies or those planning a trip to Cameroon, here are some dishes that I missed and advice. I put a link to the recipe for those who wish try. Feel free to tell me what you thought.

- the ndolé (chicken, shrimp, beef, tripe ...) to accompany fried plantain
- chicken DG unavoidable and so good, do not be surprised if it is served whole with the head and legs, eats everything in chicken
- pistachio cake Moukon my Ngondo or, even better when it is spicy, it is often eaten in leaves
- shrimp sauteed Kribi, indescribable so it's a wonder
- fish braised
- the Ndomba (at fish)
- Kondre the Bamileke country
- chicken peanut
-
the Wiggles - the famous fried plantain at it and fill the belly, served in
cover almost everything - in the north you can taste very good game like antelope, warthog ...
- the soy you find those little skewers of meat braised everywhere. The sellers use "wheelbarrow-fours" to be able to move. The skewer is put in the bread as a sandwich, pour the hot sauce with it and
good beer ...
- cassava sticks, very sticky (we cook with garlic and parsley to skillet which gave them a crunchy delicious).
- the ginger juice, plus it's an aphrodisiac ...

Here are some ideas for food lovers and those who love adventure too. For my part, I ate too much game, snake ... and preparations are very good. Of course there are many other specialties, and each region has its own already but there you have the most famous I think. For dessert, I think there's nothing good the exotic local fruits, much better than the ones you buy here.

course for your meal to be permanently placed under the sign of Africa, please use the many utensils that you will find here and tablecloths we offer here.

Bon appetite ...

Things To Have Inside A Car

Cheers batik

By coming laps, I did not expect them to have such success. For my part, I love them as I've said for all their qualities and their beauty, but when you do not know, we may ask: is it robust, does it faded, is what it is easy to iron ... Well, I am pleased to note that buyers who have trusted us and we are delighted to congratulate us and remember to thank us (but it is we who thank you first of all). I am especially pleased that these sheets tend to disappear in Africa mainly because of Asian competition and if we can develop a bit this trade, we can keep this art. I also note that more and more people around the world come to visit us (now we have had visits from people from Canada, the United States, Japan, Belgium) and I really hope that we will orders from all countries.
Anyway, if you know anyone who likes to draw up a beautiful table, tell us ...

nice day

Energy poverty: what is it?

A household is poor in energy terms it is not capable of heating his home continuously and at a reasonable cost (GORDON, 2002). This definition is taken from the literature that used in studies in developed countries, particularly in Europe. In Cameroon, poverty Energy is defined as a lack of public access to energy services in quality and quantity , reliable, efficient, sustainable and continuously [1] .

While fuel poverty is measured in developed countries for households that have electricity, it is defined in Cameroon based on the lack of household access to this energy source. According to the latter, are considered poor in terms of energy, households without access to electricity. The first approach involves in turn the fuel poverty threshold, which corresponds to the amount of expenditure allocated to energy, below which a household will be considered non-poor in terms of energy. According to the official definition in force in the UK, are considered in energy poverty households who must use over 10% of their income to cover their energy expenditure (DEFRA and DTI, 2001).
.
Two main elements used to define fuel poverty in a household: income and energy consumption (DUBOIS, 2007).

First, the inclusion of income in the definition of poverty used to represent it through a threshold or''poverty line'', which can be absolute or relative poverty line is defined by compared to the overall distribution of income or consumption in a country. The absolute poverty line is itself associated with some''absolute standards on items whose household must have to cover their basic needs (Coudouel et al., 2002). It is often based on estimates of the cost of certain commodities, such as the cost of a basket of goods nutrition.
.
This approach is rarely used to define fuel poverty, although some studies employ, like the one conducted by Foster et al. (2000), which attempt to define a line of "fuel poverty" from household surveys in Guatemala. They use this data on energy consumption of households whose per capita expenditures fall within a band of 10% around the official poverty line. The definition used in the United Kingdom does not establish such a line are considered as living in fuel poverty are those who spend more than 10% of their income to cover their energy consumption.

The definition of fuel poverty could be represented on a graph like the one below, where all households located above the line are considered poor in terms of energy.

Fuel poverty therefore covers a different reality of poverty in general. In Indeed, some people may be poor but not in energy poverty, and conversely, there may be non-poor but are nonetheless experiencing fuel poverty. This type of poverty is only partly related to income, since it also stems from the importance of household energy consumption.

The level of energy consumption within the definition of energy poverty in the UK, since it relies on energy expenditure that consumers "should" do. First, some households may affect less than 10% of their income on energy when they should eat more to maintain the temperature of their housing at a sufficiently high level. These consumers are rationing their energy consumption and should therefore be included in populations living in fuel poverty.

Second, other consumers may spend more than 10% of their income on their energy consumption without "having to" make such expenditures. These consumers have a consumption of energy, which can have different origins such a waste, poor energy efficiency of their homes, etc.. Finally, define fuel poverty from the household budget devoted to energy expenditures raises the issue of energy poverty.

What are the determinants of energy poverty in Cameroon?
Reducing energy poverty can it reduce poverty?
